"I knew even as a child that, when I grew up, I would be an artist of some kind."

About Me

Finding Inspiration in Every Turn

image.png

Michelle Ackerman is a mixed media collage artist residing in Georgia. Her artwork is colorful and symbolic, using a wide range of paint and papers.  Her layers allow her to explore the relationship between colors and shapes while building rich textures and depth. She rearranges organic shapes and everyday images to create a dream like composition.

Take a closer look at Michelle’s work and you might discover bits and pieces of sheet music, letters, notes, birds, vintage postcards along with her own sketches. Her work often includes windows, creating a juxtaposition for viewers to look inward and outward at the same time. The combination of these elements invites the viewer in, giving them creative freedom to be curious and write their story of what they see, feel, and why it matters to them.

 '''

Her love of all things artsy started at an young age in Florida. She’d spend her time sketching things she saw in books, nature, or in her home. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a minor in art education from Georgi State University.  As a certified art teacher, she was able to give young artists the tools to express their creativity through art. For seventeen years she infused her own child-like wonder in the classroom allowing students to find their own voice.

Today, Michelle can be found in her home studio, exploring new tools, color schemes, and creating whimsical mixed media collages.

Michelle is a member of the Atlanta Collage Society and the Dunwoody Fine Arts Association.  Her work can be seen at local charity events, libraries and for sale at The is West Side Market in Roswell. Follow her on instagram @paitnandcollage or visit her website at
